Prostate biopsy
Where cancer is suspected, a tissue sample will be taken and examined under a microscope. Your doctor will recommend you for a prostate biopsy (also known as mapping) if there are suspicious or indistinct findings - palpable nodes in the prostate, suspicious areas on the ultrasound scan or a raised PSA level (prostate-specific tumour marker). Early diagnosis is especially important in prostate cancer because it rarely causes symptoms in the early stages.
